Announced at the Bergen International Shipping Conference on 10 June, Trygve Nøkleby — Managing Director of the Bergen Rederiforening (Bergen Shipowners’ Association) was chosen by a vote of our members during the AGM for making diversity a strategic priority across the maritime industry, and serving as a role model and mentor.
Under his leadership, the association has built stronger recruitment pathways, mentoring opportunities, and platforms that open maritime careers to more people. As an early supporter of the 40by30 pledge and a long-standing mentor in the Maritime Meet-Up program, Trygve Nøkleby has consistently turned ambition into lasting change — both publicly and behind the scenes.
With this honour, he becomes only the second man ever to receive the award.
The award was presented by Siv Remøy-Vamgem (2021 recipient), alongside President Capt. Jaquelyn Burton, EMBA, MS, AFNI, and Vice President Maren Lodden. This year’s piece is “Trygg venn” (“safe friend”) by artist Bjørg Thorhallsdottir — a lighthouse-and-boat motif celebrating the steady people who guide others safely home to harbour.
We also warmly congratulate our other outstanding nominees: Marianne Sivertsen Næss, Lena Dyring and Sara Søreng.
