Do you want to join the Maritime Meet-Up program starting October 2020?
Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) is an international networking organization for female managers in the shipping industry. WISTA has national associations in 51 countries and more than 3,500 members globally. WISTA works withthe entire maritime ecosystem to support professional development, opportunities, and networking for women in the maritime industry.
In Norway, WISTA membership is open to both women and men in the maritime industry, the only criteria being that the members want to contribute to increased diversity in our industry. We have more than 200 members and an active board consisting of ten women from different parts of the industry, distributed between the “maritime headquarters” Oslo and Bergen.
WISTA Norway want to accelerate career opportunities for women in the maritime industry, and to foster two-way learning and collaboration between younger women and experienced leaders. In 2012 we launched the mentor program “Maritime Meet-Up” in collaboration with YoungShip – with great success!
The aim of the program is to create a meeting place where experienced shipping professionals can share insights and career tips with the less experienced, and also that the younger, femaletalents can inspire and drive change for both men and women in more established roles.
For the Maritime Meet up program for 2020/2021 we are cooperating with both The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association and Young Ship, and we would like to invite shipping professionals and young womenemployed in the shipping industry to join the program as mentors or mentees. Both men and women are encouraged to sign up as mentors, while the mentee seats are reserved for women at the moment, seeing as females are still underrepresented in the maritime industry. There is no prerequisite to be a member of neither WISTA, NSA or YoungShip, but the three organizations are facilitating the program together.
We will kick off this year’s program on 20th October 2020 with a webinar where we will introduce the program, share practical experience from mentors and mentees who are already in the program and organize a “speed dating”session for the new participants(to find good matches between mentors and mentees.)
As a mentor, you will be assigned a mentee with whom you will meet – in a frequency and format based on the interest and capacity of the two of you. As a mentee your goal is to learn from an industry professional and further develop your career within the shipping industry.
We hope YOU will contribute by investing your time in the development of the future shipping generation. Mentors and mentees are asked to register via the link below no later than 1st October 2020.
