Plastic waste is a hot topic all over the world, as people have realized the magnitude of this problem, and how severely plastic wasted micro plastic are affecting our oceans and the life beneath the surface.
Every minute, one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our oceans. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish. EU have prohibited use of single-use plastics, but what can we do as individuals and as maritime companies?
In this meeting we will hear from:
•Maria Strøm Nakstad was a summer intern at Accenture and analyzed how Wilhelmsen can reduce our plastic footprint
•Sandra Ness will tell us about her bold “Arctic Whale” project; sailing the vessel Barba from Stavanger to the arctic to interact with and study the marine environment to highlight the threat of plastic pollution and human impact on our ocean.
•Arne Tørnkvist, director in ORCAS (Ocean Recovery Concepts and Solutions, http://www.orcas.no/) will share insight into the different types of technologies available for ocean plastic removal.
•Kari Torp (http://bellona.org/employee/kari-torp)works with aquaculture and Ocean Forest and will tell us what Bellona is doing to combat plastic in the ocean.
Look forward to seeing you, and discussing how each of us –and our companies –can contribute to saving the oceans!
